The average age of a United States military man is 19 years.
He is a short haired, tight-muscled kid who, under normal circumstances, is considered by society as half-man, half-boy. Not yet old enough to die  for his country. (more)

Morris County is the home to three U.S. National Guard bases which were recently deployed to Afghanistan and Iraq to protect our freedom and democracy.  (more) More than 3,000 of our men and

women will be more than 6,000 miles away from their families and the country they love; leaving those that they dearly love and the simplest creature comforts of home behind.  For many, this is their third and / or fourth tour of  duty to the Middle East.

We are seeking volunteers in making this holiday season as good as it gets for those heroic men and women.  The most common request amongst our troops overseas is to receive letters of support from family, friends, and fellow Americans.

Answering that call of
duty, Morris County Cares has designed a grass root initiative to unify Morris County by spearheading a personalized interactive writing campaign and troop drive throughout the months of October and November; fulfilling 3 objectives:
1) continuing active military awareness and support on the home front.
2) sending letters and basic items to the troops and
3) fundraising for postage to ship the supplies overseas.

Morris County organizations are being asked to participate by adopting a troop and spearheading their own "Morris County Cares Campaign".  As soon as MCCC receives your positive response, your organization will receive a starter kit containing the contact name and photo (if available) of your assigned unit, a list of needed items, a commemorative DVD, and preprinted postcards so that supporters can send their own personalized message. Morris County Cares Campaign Postcards are to be sold for $1 per card to offset the high cost of shipping overseas.

NOTE:
If your school or organization knows of an alumnus or relative of a student or member who is currently serving overseas and you have their contact information, this would be a perfect opportunity for you to show them you care by adopting their unit.

Drop off date for all donations is Saturday November 22, 2008 between 8 am to 6 pm.  Location to be announced.
